DESCRIPTION This unique converted chapel is larger than first impressions would suggest and has original features such as beams and coving, as well as a sundial from 1838. The property has five bedrooms, a good-sized kitchen, two separate reception rooms and an integral garage. There is a gated driveway offering off street parking and a lawned rear garden.

HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY Wesley House was a working Wesleyan Methodist Chapel from 1837 until it closed down in the early 1980's. The sundial was made by John Smith (born 1807), a local inventor, preacher and the son of a farmer in Bielby who had a strong inclination to study astronomy and dialling. When he was 18 he completed a wooden sundial which indicated the time both in England and New York. This was fastened to a pillar in his father's garden, and showed the time either by sun, moon or stars and was called an astronomical clock. John Smith presented to the trustees a vertical south declining sun-dial, engraven on stone. It was specially made to suit the aspect of the building and was erected on the front of Bielby Chapel, where it can still be seen.

LOCATION Bielby is a small rural village just south of the A1079 and approximately 2 miles from the market town of Pocklington which offers an excellent range of facilities including a health centre, dental and veterinary practices, specialist shops, three supermarkets, library, sports and leisure facilities, restaurants, arts centre, post office, banks, the highly regarded Pocklington Grammar School and Woldgate Secondary school.
